We need more information, but I think this is what happened to you:

You were served with a show cause order to come to Court on a certain day. You didn't show up. The "warrant" you're talking about is actually a capias order. If that is the case, then when you turn yourself in, you'll be taken to jail for a day or two; the purpose of the capias is to get you in front of the Judge (you were ordered to be there and you didn't show up) for the hearing on the motion for contempt; at that hearing (which will happen in a few days), the Judge can THEN sentence you a long term of confinement, depending on what the pleadings say (i.e., the motion for contempt).

I knew a man who spent years in jail for failure to pay child support. However, the usual/typical outcome (if there aren't any special circumstances) is that you will be found in contempt; SENTENCED to six months; but the sentence is suspended, and you are put on probation; during the probationary period (usually TEN YEARS), you must pay child support each month AND pay extra money toward the arrearage. If you don't, then you will be put in jail for six months.
