Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I live in Travis County (Texas) and had a civil order, divorce, signed last week. How long do I have to make any modifications or changes to this before it becomes final? I had heard it was 30 days, but a friend said that it could take up to 90 days if there are errors/misunderstandings before it becomes final with no recourse.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I assume that you did not have an attorney representing you - otherwise, you should just call your attorney.

Once the judge signs the Final Decree of Divorce the judge loses jurisdiction over the divorce in 30 days and the final decree is "final". That means it is written in stone forever. If there are ny typos or errors then you are stuck with it. Therefore, if there are any typos you need to move NOW to get it fixed within the 30 day period. But don't wait -- you need to get your paperwork in front of the judge way before the 30 day period has run. So don't file your paperwork on day 30!

If only you and your soon to be ex-spouse have signed the paperwork and the judge has not signed the Final Decree of Divorce then the your divorce is not final.

The Judge's signature is the only signature that truly matters.

I have no idea where you got the 90 day thing.
