How long does a judge have to make a child custody decision if he/she does not make a decision on the day of the hearing?

An excellent question. The answer is: there's no time limit. A judge once took OVER A YEAR to render a decision here in Dallas.

If the judge drags his feet for an inordinate amount of time, one could file some sort of Motion to Make Ruling and set it for a hearing. Which would, I imagine, greatly amuse the judge.
