Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I paid my child support directly to my ex (cashier checks). Did not go through the TX Attorney General's Office as stated to do so on my divorce settlement. Do I still get credit?

Ouch! This is a very sticky question.

There are judges that feel that if you pay her directly that is NOT child support.

If you were ordered to pay thru the TX A G you might have a problem. Many judges do not like people that don't follow the orders they signed.

Does your decree state that all payments directly to her are considered "gifts" and not child support? Again, if it does, then you were made aware that these payments were not child support.

I charge $1 per minute to sit down with you and review your decree.
