Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I paid $5,000 to a divorce attorney in TX as a non-refundable retainer. I decided not to file. Can I feasibly recover any of this retainer? Only a few hours were billed against it. Over $4,500 of this was unused.

Write him a letter (paper letter ... no emails or texts, and don't use a telephone) and ask for your money back, and see what happens. The law on this is somewhat complicated, and the answer to your question will depend on the wording of his contract; but the answer probably is "You are entitled to a refund."
