Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Runaway minor, age 15 and pregnant

My 15 year old grand daughter is 9 weeks pregnant and her mother has had custody since my son, the child's father was killed in a car accident(he had custody prior due to a cps issue with the mother and her boyfriend). She and my son were in the process of getting a divorce. My question is this. My grand daughter has gone missing as of 03/03/08 and we suspect she is with the boyfriend who is 16. We did learn this morning that she is with him or at least has access to his cell phone and she says she is ok ans will call someone when things get back to normal, whatever that means. The mother has supposedly put in a missing report and has looked for her to no avail according to her. I'm afraid for my grand daughter, the boy and the baby but what can I do as a grand parent. Relations are not real good between me and the mother and I don't want to make things worse for my grand daughter, I just want her to be safe. Is there anything we can do?

It is a tragic situation, but am not sure there is anything you can do, legally. Grandparents have a few additional rights when the parent has died. Although relations are not good, possibly for the sake of the baby, your daughter-in-law might be willing to negotiate to reach a safe solution for all of the parties. Call your granddaughter, talk to her, see if you can help broker a compromise. An attorney might be able to assist in mediating a solution.
