Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

i am a deputy sheriff and there is a newspaper article printed by a newspaper referencing a death that ocurred while an inmate was being transported . the newspaper names me as that deputy and it is false i was not the one who was transporting himmand was not even in town on the date this happened. what are my options

My suggestion is to contact the editor or desk editor of the newspaper and explain the factual error and then ask for a retraction. You should find the editor's contact information somewhere in the newspaper. You may also need to speak with the reporter who authored the article to ascertain how the reporter obtained your name. You may have to provide proof that you were not involved in the prison transfer. If the facts are as you claim them to be, then that should not be a problem and the retraction should be forthcoming. You should also ask the editor when the retraction will run - and then monitor the paper to ensure that is does in fact go to print.
