Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Employer fails to allow emergency phone call for 2 hours

Is there any recourse for me to have my employer to allow emergency message or phone call to be given to employ in a timely manner? While my house was on fire and husband going to the hospital, my family was trying to reach me but was unsucessful for over 2 hours. Finally had to have the local fire/police dept. call my employer and request they give me a message. This incident has caused me so much stress and fear that it has affected my health. A few days ago, I was in the emergency room for chest pains, and my daughter tried to call my employer to notify them that I would not be at work that day, and again, had difficulty in reaching a supervisor. She had to place 3 calls before the message was acknowledged. This employer is a MAJOR company.

In my opinion therre is no legal recourse. Hence, the need for unions

and in the absence of a union, take selfhelp approach.....but in our free enterprise society which we feel gives us freedome..employees leave when they want..and employers...do what they want
