Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

My mother bought my son a car a year ago. She put 1000.00 down and made the first couple of payments until he got a job. He made the payments (161.00 paid to my mom) for a little over a year. Then my son and mother had a falling out and she took the car away. Can he recover money for the payments he made on the car so he can buy another car?

He would have to sue her in small claims court, and he would not necessarily win - although he should. If she got to keep the car (rather than return it to him), then she MIGHT be entitled to keep some of the payments sort of like rental money - for the use of the car.
