Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Property damage to car, settle without going through insurance?

I was hit by a car from behind and had $550 in damage caused to my spare tire. The gentleman has offered to cover the damage but wants me to take my car to the dealership for repair and he will pay the dealership directly. Is this legal? I would like for him to just give me the money for the repair and I will have the repairs done on my own time and at my own dealership. He has already offeren in writing to pay for the damages, I just want them paid to me instead of the repair shop.

Nothing wrong with what he is proposing. This is generally how it is done with insurance companies too--they pay the repair shop directly. With a private individual willing to pay, I would strike while the iron is hot and make whatever arrangements are necessary to get your car in and have the repair completed.
