Stolen Checks

My father passed away last April 2009. His step-son stole some checks and forged his signature. When my father had found out and confronted the kid, the kid said he woould pay him back. Now that my father has passed, Can I sue him to recover the money? and Can I still file charges against him?

Yes and yes. Contact the police to file the charges, and contact a lawyer to determine how to sue (it depends on the amount in controversy).
