Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

I was walking my dog on a leash and a neighbors dog came running out to my dog. It was not on a leash. I grabbed my flash light and threatened the dog. The neighbors came running out and grabbed the dog. When I was coming back from my walk the neighbors said I hurt their dog. I do not remember swinging the flashlight let alone hitting it. They let me look at the dog and it was favoring it left rear leg. What should I do?

Apologize that IF you caused pain to the dog, that was not your intent. You were in fear for your and your dog's safety when their dog, who should have been on a leash, ran up to you. Ask them not to walk their dog without a leash in the future. And that is all. You do not owe them anything; this is their fault.
