Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

We have a 17 year old boy working for us and he damaged one of our trucks. (He ran into the back of another truck, causing about $1000.00 in damages.) We told him he would have to pay for the damages and that we were going to $200.00 out of each check. Now he got mad and quit. Do we still have to pay him? And what can we do about making him pay for the damages. We do plan on getting an estimate to get the correct amount on the damages. We are a small home based pest control company.

Unless the employee agreed to have his pay deducted, you cannot deduct from his paycheck. If you have insurance on the truck, file a claim. If the employee was negligent, you can take him to small claims court.
