A coworker informed me that she believes the company we work for is secretly listening to our conversations with a webcam. The webcam is in plain sight, but we were not told it was being used to remotely listen to us, and when I asked what the webcam was for, I was told it was for taking pictures of customers and garments (I work for a dry cleaner). The same coworker once hit the mute button on the webcam and the next day it was unmuted with a little sign that said 'do not mute'.
Is it legal for my employer to secretly listen to my conversations?
No. He is committing a crime AND a tort.
