Employee Harassment ( not sexual)

Job Description: Helper

Starting Pay: $350.00/week guaranteed or $8.50/Hr, whichever is more.

7/4/02: Promoted to carpet tech.

When I started, I working in the chemical lab with no problems, as a helper I cleaned & repaired carpet every day. On Monday’s most of the time I did not get to go on a truck, the owner told me to clean the shop & office. After that they told me to go home so they did not have to pay me $8.50/ hour.

On 6/24/02 I got my check in my box, written on the top of was “You Suck”. So time passes and then one day I was working hard all day long, it was extremely hot out, we get back to the shop and the owner is standing there and said to another employee “I see you have your bitch with you”, then they started laughing and carrying on. I got mad and leave for the day. This all started on 7/16/02, ever since then when I arrive in the morning, the owner ask “who’s going to take this bitch today”. I now here it from the owner and the other employees as well, usually when they are in a group laughing.

My first question would be are you male or female as that would affect an evaluation of the situation from a legal standpoint. My suggestion would be to contact the local EEOC office and speak to them as it sounds like you are in a hostile work environment which is prohibited by law.
