Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

I was fired on Monday, and when I received my last check today, $2200 was taken out of my check as a "miscellaneous deduction".

I contacted Human Resources, who said that the company truck had a small dent in it, and that amount was to cover the cost to fix the dent.

I've asked for a written estimate from whatever repair shop is allegedly fixing this dent, and have received no response-- Probably because there IS no written estimate.

Don't I have a right to see a written estimate of the alleged damages, for which I was already charged for? Isn't it illegal to just arbitrarily withhold some random amount from my wages? I find it suspicious that it's a round number; most cost estimates include a dollar and cents amount.

I've also been told that I will not be paid for my two weeks of vacation pay because I was fired. I was under the impression that, if a company offers a vacation benefit, they have to pay you upon termination.

You should check with the Texas Workforce Commission. The company usually doesn't have the right to withhold your paycheck, unless you've given them permission.
