layoffs

is it legal for a company to lay off full time employees then turn around and hire part time help in there place even before they were layed off or right after

It is probably legal BUT the laid off employees probably have legal claims for something..eg..discrimination for age/sex/etc...call an employment lawyer and if the employees unite, they may have a good case..
