Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

lie detector tests

My boss recently told me and my other co-workers that he's discovered that someone is stealing money. He said that he is going to have the police investigate and he wants us to take lie detector tests. Do we have to take a lie detector test at his request? Are these tests even accurate or admissable? I have no problem taking the test, I just question the validity of taking these types of test to prove a case/point.

Thank you.

Re: lie detector tests

Based on what you have written, if someone is stealing money from the employer; then the employer may conduct an investigation to attempt to discover the source. The employer more than likely will contact the police to assist in conducting the investigation. Additionally, the police's investigation may potentially lead to a criminal prosecution of the crime. As for the lie detector test, polygraph test results have been questioned in courts since their inception. An individual may choose to not particiapte in such actions, but realize that there may be other actions that potentially could result from that non-participation. Texas is an employment-at-will state. Therefore employment is at the will of the employee or at the will of the employer.
