Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

I recently strained/sprained my back getting into my truck on the way to work. I had done this two years ago as well, but I was on the job at the time. I'm currently stuck at home because I cant even walk let alone make my deliveries. I have used up all my sick days and am currently on leave without pay until the dr releases me. My coworker told me thy if I am not back to work by next week they were going to post my route and demote me. I have been with the company for five years. Is this legal? Can try demote me for having a reoccurring job injury happen when I wasn't working? What can I do?

Not much you can do since you are probably not a labor union member, and this injury did not occur on the job, and Texas is a "Right to work" state. They can fire you without any cause at all.
