Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Landlord/Tenant

My lease was up in April. I was rushed to move out March 23 because they had already leased my apt to someone else. I let them deduct the cost to have the carpets cleaned from my deposit because they said it would be cheaper to use their company. I knew I had to have this done anyway because I have two dogs. The rest of my deposit was refunded and my entire pet deposit was refunded. On May 4th they told me that I needed to pay for having the carpets replaced ($800+) because the new tenants said it still smelled like dog after they already moved in. I don't think I should be held responsible for this cost.

Re: Landlord/Tenant

My thoughts? I would not pay this, but would contest it. They signed off on the move-out. If they have a new picky tenant, that is the risk they took forcing you out early.
