Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

I paid a deposit to rent a house and asked the landlord to fix a few things before I moved in. Two weeks before I was due to move in I asked him to put covers on the electrical outlets, fix a leaking toilet, replace a closet door that had mold on it, repair a hole under the sink that went through the floor, and pump about two feet of water out of the storm shelter,. He agreed so I paid him a deposit. Come the first of the month, all he repaired was the plug covers. I cannot move my family into this house in this condition so I asked for my deposit back. Landlord said no since I no longer wanted the house. Can I get my deposit back?

Yes. Send him a letter (paper letter) demanding your money back, and give him a time limit ("on or before May 12, 2010"). If he doesn't comply, sue him in small claims court. The filing fee is $101.
