Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

As the parent of a 17 year old who was in a personal injury vehicle accident in New Mexico I retained a Texas attorney to pursue damages. My child has since turned 18. I am wondering if I have any control over the settlement and/or access to any of the settlement money.

New Mexico law applies. You need to ask the question of an attorney who practices in New Mexico. Had the accident happened in Texas, you would have only a right to the proceeds applicable to reimbursement of the medical expenses since medical expenses of a minor are the obligation of the parent. Everything else, you would have no right to control nor access.
