Your question is vague at best. You are presuposing that you will get ripped off by the person that helps you get the money, not a good way to start a relationship with an attorney.

If you hire an attorney according to a percentage fee based contract, then the attorney's fees will be set in writing and not subject to manipulation. For large expenses, you can ask for receipts.

If you hire an attorney by the hour, then document the time you spend talking to the attorney so that you will have your records to compare to those shown on the attorney's bill.

You should request an itemization of your settlement that lists the attorneys fees paid to your attorney, case expenses, and your portion of the recovery.

If your attorney was able to get you a million dollar settlement, you should have some faith and trust in him/her and not think he will rip you off.
