Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

Slander / Defamation of Character ?

I currently have a case filed in small claims court against my previous employer. I have also filed BBB complaints and complaints through the TWC, as well as wage claim forms. The position of CEO for this company has recently come open and an acquaintance of mine was interviewed. My name came up during the interview and the owners of this company were saying things about me that are untrue. Some employees who still work there have also said the owners bad mouth me now that I am gone. This could be happening in retaliation for my actions since I left the company, but since they are spreading false information about me (such as I am not a good employee, always late, never did my work, etc) to people who are and arent employees, this is starting to give me a bad reputation in the industry. Could I sue for slander or defamation of character? The small claims suit I filed is for an unpaid bonus and last paycheck. This company also forges contracts, does not allow employees to take a lunch and hires every employee with a bonus agreement, but even the previous CEO stated that no one ever gets their bonus. They are fired before it is paid out. I have documents/witnesses to prove everything. I would like to sue if possible.

You should have a lawyer go over everything with you because you sound like you have a claim and the lawyer will have to determine what can be proven.

You can sue, but the difficulty with defamation cases is proving who is telling the truth. Also, you must prove damages. If you are currently employed, then it may be hard to show that you have suffered much in the way of economic harm. There are complex issues and you should hire an attorney to work with you on these.
