Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

slander question

Hi,

I am being sued for slander. A person that I believe is a child molester had trespassed on my property and was told by the sherriff to leave, he came back again and I went to the station to file a report. In my explaining to the sherriff about what the man was doing on my property I also explained to him that I believed that he had molested a family member of mine and why I thought so. Later this suit was brought against me. When I told the sherriff this I was in a room with just the sherriff and I. Later he deposed the sherriff and in the deposition the sherriff admits that I insisted he was a child molester. My question is:

1) Isn't what I tell police confidential and not slander. also

2) What is in texas statute that states this?

P.S. I did and still do believe that he molested my family member she was just too young at the time to tell cps clearly. Thanks, Texas Dad

Re: slander question

You need to hire a lawyer to defend you; but it sounds like you may already have a lawyer since the plaintiff has taken a deposition. If so, the Texas Rules of Conduct limit other lawyers' ability to communicate with you about the facts of your case.
