Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Foreclosures

I have found an abandoned home/property that I am interested in and would like to found out what the status of the property is. I have not found it on any of the foreclosure list. The house is worthless but the land is what I am interested in. Any suggestions on how to find out the status of the property?

Foreclosures

Howdy:

It may not be a foreclosure. Are you sure there’s a loan on it?

The first step is to find out who the owner is. That can be done through the appraisal district. They’ll tell you the name and last known mailing address. They can also tell you if the taxes are current. If they are, it isn’t abandoned.

Once you know the owner, check the county deed records to trace the title. It’ll tell you if the property is liened, or if it has been transferred recently.

Those are the steps to determine the status.

Good luck.
