Is gifted OR bought land from parent community property?

I would like to know the best way to get some land from my mother and protect it from a possibility of future divorce. I want to build a house on it and need to know the best course. Thank You.

If you are currently married, then in order for the land to be your separate property, it must be a gift to you, specifically as your separate property. If you pay anything for it, and the money you use is not clearly your separate property, then the land will be considered at least partially community property, and thus divisible in divorce.
