I would have to read the contracts in place to give you an answer. My advice to you is to hire a lawyer to send a letter to the apartment complex management company and owner detailing what you described, and to state exactly what the management company told you. This letter shouldn't cost much, and it will give you peace of mind. I've seen situations where apartment complex management companies change, and the new company doesn't know what the prior company did, etc. Though it's technically not your problem, it can cause you great inconveniences if not attended to now.
