Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

purchase of tax sell property

We purchased raw land through a tax sale. Before we can put any improvements on this property, how long do we need to own it? The property was also transferred with a Deed without Warranty. What does this mean?

Thanks,

Shelby

Re: purchase of tax sell property

The redemption period for non-homestead property is 1 year. This means the prior owner can claim rights to the property upon payment to you of your costs to obtain the property plus the redemption fee. A deed without warranty is a valid deed, but the seller provides no warranty as to the status of title to the property. After your one year is up, I would suggest purchasing a title policy before building on the land.
