Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Taxes paid on abandoned property

I paid 10 years of back taxes on a property and have kept the payments up for the last two years. The Owner appeared and informed me that he too has been making the payments and that the tax assesors office is wrong about the property being abandoned. I have the tax bills sent to my home and am listed as payee on the bill. I don't believe the owner saying he, too has made the payments as there was nothing to pay (the bill was current). Do I have any legal rights to the property and if not, how do I get the money I paid in back taxes back and from who...the owner or the tax office?

You have a right to reimbursement for the taxes paid. If he is unwilling to reimburse, you could go to small claims court and provide proof of payment. For a claim of adverse possession, you needed to be in possession of the property for 10 continuous years and it looks like you have only 2-3 years of possession.
