Legal Question in Social Security Law in Texas

SS and TRS

I have two questions. One is, I pay into TRS working for a school that does not take out SS from our checks. If you get disability will both of them pay?

Question two, I am barely hanging on in my job heatlth wish but can not afford to quit for money and insurance reasons. From what I have read you have to be off a year before you can draw SS, but how could anybody be off for a year with no income and no insurance and live? I don't understand this concept. Especially no income. Nobody is going to be taken care of for a year and not lose everything they have with out some money coming in.

Confused

Re: SS and TRS

I don't see how you would get SS disability. You have to qualify by paying in 40 quarters. I don't know if you would qualify for SSI because that is income based for low income. But, you can check this out with the local SS office or get this information online.
