If the executor of an extate dies with no alternate executor designated, what happens to will? How is another executor appointed?

Usually one of the heirs who is willing to act as executor will request the judge appoint him or her as the independent executor. The judge will decide if that person will be appointed and, if not, will make the decision to appoint an executor or administrator.
