Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

My father died in Texas back in 1987 without a will. He did own several worthless vacant lots. Our relationship wasn't the greatest; in fact we were estranged.

After all these years the county where he died is coming after me claiming I am responsible for hundreds of dollars in back taxes. The county is even threatening leins, lawsuits, and damage to my credit score should I not pay up.

I have no interest in anything that may have belonged to him. I have told them this, but they still say I owe it. Do I have options? I don't want to be responsible for someone else's property or debt.

Typically, the lawsuits are "in rem" meaning that they are only going after the property. At any rate, I don't have enough information here to assist you. Please feel free to call me about this.

As noted...don't worry they can take the lots...but u may call a person iin the area where the lots are who would want the lots ..and pay the taxes..
