How to find accounts of deceased

My father n law passed away 10/30/04 his wife passed away in 2001. There are no children of the marriage. My husband is the only biological child of my father n law. His deceased wife has 4 children. We believe he has several open accounts. However, we can't access the mail at his home due to family drama with the step brothers and sisters. How do we find out what other open accounts my father n law has?

Re: How to find accounts of deceased

Given the limited information that I have, my best guess is that your husband can make an application to the probate court to administer the estate of his deceased parent. Once you receive letters of administration, the applicant (your husband) steps into the shoes of the deceased, and can reroute the mail, collect the statements and bills, and process the estate.
