Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

How to view a will

I had an uncle die and the only living relatives were nieces and newphews. One newphew was assigned as EX. The will went to probate due to property involved. Knowone else has received any info. about the will. Our cousin told us we were heirs. It has been 9 months. Can we view the will? What is the process?

Thank You

Re: How to view a will

If the will was filed for probate, then it is available for viewing. It is a public filing. You can go to the courthouse and ask for a copy of the file (there may be a fee involved.) Depending on the county, the cause number (the number assigned by the court) may be available online. This can significantly speed up the process for you to view the file. From there, you can see who was appointed executor, etc.

Re: How to view a will

In addition to what Mr. Leon told you, you can order a copy of the will from the court clerk. A phone call should get you the case number and court identification, and the number of pages to the will. A copy, typically, will cost $1.00 per page. A written request to the court clerk with a money order for the copy will get a copy of the will sent back to you.

If the information is online, so much the better for ordering.
