am I reponsible for the payments of an invoice that is not on my name ?

I had a new kitchen Install by my carpenter ,company name 1st format ltd. He quoted me for the work and He was pay for it ( the work included materials and labour) .

I just been contacted by the company that made the units doors(ebony designs) requesting for the payment of �700 .I have been told that if I don't pay the money, they can take the doors back. The carpenter should of pay them as he managed and dealt with all the details - Ebony design outstanding invoice (�700) was made to 1st format ltd not to me.Can they do this? even if the carpenter is liable for this invoice?

if you entered into a contract with a supplier for goods or services for which this invoice applies you will be responsible for the payment even though the invoice may not be addressed to you. If you did not you have no responsibility under the invoice.
