Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

Hello,

I am currently a international student and my girlfriend wants to get married, now I am an Iranian nationalist and she is British. I am not sure how to go about this and what I need to do?

Also as I am getting married what are the laws as I am a student how would I go with getting a British passport after being married?

Thank you

If you currently have leave to remain as a student, you are free to marry your partner here in the UK. The old scheme meant that you had to apply for permission from the Home Office, but this scheme ended on 09 May 2011, so you can now marry.

Once you are married, you would need to make an application for leave to remain as the spouse of a British person. This would give you leave for 2 years. After these 2 years, you would then be eligible to apply for settlement, before then applying for British citizenship.
