''Who Owns Telephone Number''

Initailly the telephone subscriber gets telephone number. If he is a businessman he invests money to make that number popular. If after all this, the telecom company withdraws that number from him, then what remedy the subscriber has got? ''who owns the telephone number''. what if the telecom rules or the contracts have not made any mention of 'ownership of telephone number'

I am not clear. Do you mean to say that they have retained your telephone connection but unilaterally withdrawn the telephone number only. If yes, have they provided you with a new number?

In India, the practise, of ownership of Tele-number is not there, and as the law stands today - it is a not clear as to who owns the number. In US and UK it is clear, that the person to whom it is allotted or who bought it, owns the number. At the moment various consumer movement organisations, in India, are fighting for ownership rights to a tel number.
