Legal Question in Consumer Law in Utah

can i sign a contract for roof repairs to a house i don't own? my boyfriend owns it but i'm not on the deed. plus the roofer tried to add 2000.00 extra dollars for repairs he didn't even tell us about until after he fixed them. he is charging us 9500.00 for small three bedroom house. is that right? the original price he gave me was 7600 and i only signed the contract because my boyfriend was not home and the roofer said there was a deadline for a refund we could get. he also said our home owners insurance would help out alot and he would contact our insurance company. when it came time to pay he said nothing about the insurance company. we called them and the never heard from him and said they would not be able to help us. is there anything i can do?

You can contract for repairs even if you do not own the house.

You are not liable for repairs performed without your consent.

If you think his price is high, contact other contractors to see what is reasonable.

Find out what the refund is and get documentation. Do not pay the refund amount until you get the refund.

You can sue in small claims court for fraud.
