Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

Is there a statute of limitations for debtors in Utah? My wife's ex received a loan at a check cashing business back in 2000 while they were still married, they just sent us a collection letter 12 years later. She had no idea that this was even out there, it hasn't been on her credit.

Utah has a 8 year statute of limitations on collections based on contracts.
