Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

My 17 year old niece; which I have guardianship over, got pregnant by her 19 year old boyfriend. She went to the hospital and was treated for a miscarriage because of an RH factor issue. I was not aware that she was pregnant or had even been seen at the hospital until I got a 3800.00 bill from the hospital two months after the fact.

I do not have insurance of any kind. Am I responsible for this bill? Can I legally request her and the boyfriend to pay? We had many conversations about sex and she insisted she was not sexually active. The hospital did not ask my consent to treat. What are my options? I live in the state of Utah.

If you did not agree with the hospital to pay, the niece is responsible to the hospital. At the time of admission the admissions office had someone - ostensible the niece and boyfriend - to sign for services. One or the other, or both of them are liable.
