Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

name change

I have no visitation and never had. The courts have never changed the papers from "reasonable visitation" to a set schedule. They tell her to make it convenient. She told one Judge "I'll never make it convenient"; still nothing. I found out why the schools would not acknowledge me. She has changed my son's last name and all school records show him without my last name, but they keep making me pay. A Judge told me "she can change his name as often as she wants. How can this be right?

Re: name change

What court granted custody - Utah or Nevada? You must be specific about asking these questions. Also, where does the child presently live and what is his age?

If the Order is from Clark County Nevada, there is a process that can be used to obtain your visits. Call me if you would like to hire me to help take care of this.

As to a judge telling you that the name could be changed, it takes a court order to change a name in Nevada. It is an expensive procedure. What she calls the child at home and at school is her business, but what his birth certificate says is based upon court records.
