Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Utah

copyrighted recipe

I copied down a recipe from my sister-in-law that she got from a magazine. I don't know which one, but I'm assuming it's copyrighted. I have changed that recipe , but the basic ingredients are still there. I wanted to use the changed version of the recipe in a cooking class. Is this legal? Thanks,--name removed--Westhora

Normally recipes published are not copywrited - so you probably do not have to worry. The recipes are published so people use them. If you were going to publish the recipe and gain income from the sale of a book that might be different. I doubt the author would object to having it used in a class.
