Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

Can my employer require me to have an IPad for work? I work as an adjunct at a for-profit school that is rolling out a new widespread IPad system for students and teachers. I am 'allowed' to work 40 hours of training in exchange for this IPad (and taxes on the 'wages' (IPad) will be deducted from my salary), or I can say I already own an IPad, and complete the 40 hours of training (over 4 months) to eventually be paid a flat $500 (minus taxes). There is no option to borrow an IPad to perform the necessary duties, nor can you completely opt out of the whole thing. Is this legal?

Your question does not concern legality, but company policy. Work it out with your employer.
