Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

I worked for a company for about a year when a new position opened up. I applied and was told in order to get it I would have to complete a 16 week training course afterwhich I would be required to sign a 2 year contract. After 14 weeks of training I was given a contract and told to sign it or not return to trainig. I signed it because not doing so would make the past 14 weeks of training a whaste of time. After another year due to a hostile work enviorment I left the company. Now they are asking for reimbursment of training totally $1550.00. I have recenlty learned the individual who took my position and required the same training did not have to sign a contract. Another employee who did sign the contract is not being asked to pay it back. If they decide to take it to court will the contract hold up?

Without reviewing the contract you signed, there is no way to determine its enforceability. File a claim that the company created a hostile work environment as the cause of your termination. After filing there will be a mediation hearing. You may be able to settle their claim at that time.
