Legal Question in Personal Injury in Utah

About a year ago I got in a ski accident with an elderly woman. After the accident, I was advised not to respond to any of her emails, especially when she started talking about getting money from me. Yesterday I received a certified mail letter from a legal group, but I wasn't present to sign for it. My question is, should I sign for the letter and open it, or should I wait for something official from the court system?

First call your homeowner's insurance company, if you have one, and see if they cover liability of this sort.

Second, you can decide for yourself whether to sign and open the letter. Eventually you will be personally served, or a constable will find and serve you. If that does not work, you can be served through publication. The lawyers want you to pay for her injuries, and one way or another they will get service on you.

You should consult with an attorney to see what defenses you might have to the lawsuit.
