Legal Question in Family Law in Vermont

ex-boyfriend hides income - seeks Child Support

ex-boyfriend has full custody of our teenager. He doesn't report all his income which allows him to receive state med ins for child. The State is coming after me for child support. I make 6,000/yr (I only work part-time, and am married now), he makes at least 60k/yr, but reports only 40k. There was no child support declared in the custody papers (9 yrs ago). Can/will the state notify me, and have a hearing? Or, will they just attach my wages? What can I do to expose his hidden income?

Thank you

Re: ex-boyfriend hides income - seeks Child Support

Hi: In general, in Vermont the Family Court will have a

hearing on any request to modify support and you

will be notified and have an opportunity to respond.

There are forms that both parties must fill out

showing their income and assets, signed and notarized

under oath. You will have an opportunity to question

his income at the time of the hearing before the

magistrate. If the ex really makes that much, I am

surprised that he would qualify for any state aid.

Any support ordered is generally calculated under

quidelines that the state has unless a deviation is

requested and supported by the person requesting the

deviation.

This is a very short answer and there are a lot

more factors that the court can consider.
