Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia

Employee Privacy

I work in a restaurant in Virginia. Recently a customer called to say that she had possibly left her sunglasses behind. My employer gave the customer my home phone number to call and ask me. When I got home from running errands, I had 5 missed calls, and various messages that I felt were boardering harrassment. I am wondering if my employer's actions in giving out my personal information was legal.

Re: Employee Privacy

I know of nothing that would specifically prohibit it, unless you were working under a contract that would prohibit such dissemination of employee information.

After all, it was done presumably with the intent

not to profit but to return a pair of sunglasses to its rightful owner.
