Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

Indentifying Defendant In Lawsuit

I have filed 7 figure lawsuit in US District Court relating to my mistreatment by local police in 2000. I am trying to verify if I should be identifying the 'former' Chief at that time as the Defendant or the 'current' one. Or can I simply do both ones or have it read 'Chief(s) of Police'?

They are different & I have to serve it at the station either way; I just need to make sure before I try to.

Re: Indentifying Defendant In Lawsuit

You probably should get some local help doing this. If you get it wrong, the statute of limitations mat be about to run. Add all possible defendants: you can delete them later, but you may not be able to add them. You need to make sure you serve each of them properly. This is importnat: if you don't know what you're doing, get local legal help.
