Legal Question in Technology Law in Virginia

Copyright Broken and Copied

I have a website, and have spend over $1,000 to programmers to help add things to it. Every time I release a new feature on it, this guy adds either the exact same thing, or something very close to it, to his. I have Copyright 2007 - 2008 All Rights Reserved and more on my website and saying no on is allowed to use my pictures or features for any reason without permission. I have emailed him and he has cussed me out and continues to do it, and his web host refuses to shut him down without a ''Police Report'' which is pointless to gain. What can I do? I have dozens of records proving the copying, and also everything I add something to my website, it is dated, and on he has dates on his, which are days, weeks or months after mine. He claims he wrote his and came up with the feature first. I have many screenshots. What can I do? I am in Virginia, and his ip address is Illinois

Re: Copyright Broken and Copied

It sounds like you can easily prove copyright infringement if you've saved all the screenshots like you said. Continue to keep good documentation like this, both of yours and his sites - with dates. Then you should get a lawyer to send a cease and desist letter. The lawyer will threaten suit in federal court. If you get a good lawyer, he/she may even send a sample complaint for added effect. Quite often this will be enough to scare the other guy into stopping, and you won't actually have to file suit. Actually filing suit for copyright infringement is costly - just FYI.
